Shot blasting is a surface treatment that fires dry abrasive media at high speed to strip paint, rust, scale and other corrosion from metal. It is the quickest way to get a part back to clean, bare metal, and it leaves the surface with the right texture for a coating to grip.
We run both automated and manual blasting machines at our unit just outside Cheltenham, so we can take on anything from a batch of brackets for a contract customer to a single large or awkward fabrication. Besides rust removal, blasting also deburrs parts and evens out the surface ready for finishing.
Most steel and iron work: agricultural parts, trailers, gates and railings, chassis parts, brackets and industrial fabrications. For softer metals or parts with fine detail we will usually recommend bead or vapour blasting instead.
Not when the media and pressure are right for the job. Thin sheet and precision faces need more care, and if we think another process would treat the part better, we will tell you before we start.
People use sandblasting as a catch-all name, but modern blasting uses purpose-made media rather than sand. It is safer to work with and gives a more consistent finish.
Knock off any heavy grease or oil if you can, because blasting does not shift oil well. We will let you know if a part needs degreasing before it goes in.
